Need a place to buy some Food?
There are at least 20 food stores within a half mile of the Altavista, and at least three supermarkets. The closest supermarket (about 5 blocks) is Harris Teeter (600 North Glebe Rd at N Randolf St) just  beyond the Ballston Common Mall.  Giant is just a short distance further (about 7 blocks) at 3450 Washington Blvd and N Lincoln St, and Safeway is still within walking distance (about nine blocks) at 5101 Wilson Blvd.  Click here to view a Google Map that shows the local food stores.

Have you notified the Postal Service of your Change of Address?
If not, you can change it on-line at the
USPS website.
Commuting around the Washington Metropolitan Area

Driving and parking in the Washington area is no joy ... usually a lot of traffic and expensive parking when you can find it.  The beauty of living above the Metro line and the Ballston Metro Center is the ease of access to many commuter services.  We are literally steps from the Orange Line and many Metro and ART buses.  The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the Arlington Transit (ART) offer great websites for commuting.

Need help transferring your Out of State License or Registration?

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles website.
Need info on Arlington County Schools and Services?
See the Arlington County Website.

Need to rent a car just for an hour or half a day?
Check out ZipCars.  You can sign up on-line, and after you receive a card you can reserve a car on-line.  With your card, you can walk to the corner and access the car.  When finished return it to the reserved spot and you're done.  Its pretty simple.
